Sail Through School
When you hear the word 'college,' are you dreaming more of the open ocean than a sea of students? Sailing might be the sport for you. While some of the more well-endowed schools are known for fancy boathouses and big teams, a lot of smaller and land-bound schools also do sailing in a big way -- and sometimes shipwreck the competition.

Hoop Dreams
You don't have to be in the NCAA to know that college sports are a big deal, in any division. Not only do most colleges and universities offer more sports for women than high schools typically do (like basketball), but they also offer tons of club sports for those who aren't lining up for draft picks. Sometimes, athletes who are stars in high school opt for the club teams in college so that athletics don't become the focal point of their experience. It's a great option if you want stay in the game ?- but not have the games rule your schedule.

Just Cause
Diddy and Sean Combs are doing it. So is Leo DiCaprio. Can't guess? They're speaking out about issues & getting politically active. If you're aching to flex your own political muscle -- or even learn more about issues that matter to you -- most colleges have political clubs and organizations that let students share ideas, bring speakers to campus & be active as the voting-eligible adults they are.

Rough & Tumble
Among those in the know, rugby is considered a tougher game than even football because you're ramming into opponents -- without padding, helmets or other safety equipment. No, rugby is not for everyone, but intramural college clubs for it are known for their great camaraderie, community-building and raucousness. Plus, you can bet that no one will wanna mess with you once you start training with the toughest of the tough.

Sing It Loud
So you may be opting for college because your 'American Idol' audition didn't work out -- and that's OK. You can still show off your vocal prowess in all kinds of performances, from a cappella groups to choirs, musicals to rock bands. So don't shove the sheet music into the toilet just because we won't be seeing you on TV this year. Gently uncrumple it and consider packing it with you for school.

Get Dirrrty
There's the way that Christina Aguilera gets dirty -- and then there's your college outdoors and hiking club. We'd probably advise to hold the Xtina style and see what's out there at your school. Most schools have clubs that run their own camping and hiking trips, plus sometimes they even have access to kayaks, white water rafting, and other fun ways to take a break from the books.

Art Class Confidential
College artists are known to be a brooding, sensitive bunch -- but you don't have to be. In addition to studio art, art history and theory classes, lots of schools offer open studio time that even the non-art student can sign up for. Plus, we should also add that art openings are a savvy way to meet super-hotties of the pretentious set ... just a hint to consider. You can paint us a thank-you card later.

Talk-A-Thon
You're the biggest talker you know, not to mention the best arguer -- because really, you're always right. Maybe it's time to hone those rhetorical skills by going up against to best of the best -- on your college debate team. Far from being a bastion of the dork squad, debaters often go on to be great lawyers, teachers and policymakers. So whether you're destined for Washington or simple self-righteousness, debate club could be your gameplan.

Film Crew
Superstar directors Stephen Spielberg and George Lucas met in film school, but you don't have to go to USC to meet other Hollywood wannabes at school. Not only do a lot of schools have film appreciation clubs, but most also have film production clubs. So if 'film club' conjures images of geeky guys sitting in the dark with popcorn, it's time to take a closer look.

Hail Mary
Do you live for the smell of pigskin, live and breathe by the football schedule and dream of plays and passes? Clearly you are destined for college football. Yes, football is that traditional sport where we assume college players rule the school -- but not every team -- and not every player -- looks or acts like the stereotype. Far from the hard-partying portrayal the sport gets in movies & TV, football also take dedication, focus and hard work.

On the March
So this one time in band camp ... we realized that marching band isn't just for the nerdy tuba player who's not tough enough to actually play sports. Marching band members may never live the stigma down, but we know that the real band members are actually serious musicians with solid rhythm. Far from playing second fiddle to the athletes, the band members take center stage with any instrument they've got the skills to carry and play at the same time.
