Blake Lewis --
Runner-UpAge: 25
Hometown: Bothell, WA
Oh, Blake, Blake, Blake ... we're completely in love with you, from your spikey hair to your love of life to ... OK, not the sweater-vests, but everything else. We're sorry you didn't win, but we both know that Jordin Sparks was the better singer, even when you were more entertaining. Just to show you, we'll go back through your performances. (Oh, and if it had been a cuteness contest? You'd be our idol.) -

Blake Lewis
Blake Lewis kicked off the finale with a performance that we heard just a few weeks ago. He sang 'Shot Through the Heart,' and although we think he performed it better this time around, he was definitely stronger vocally last time. We really admire his individualism, though, and think he is headed for an awesome career.
For Blake's second song he sang 'She Will Be Loved' by Maroon 5 and we melted. The judges were not particularly psyched, but we sure were. We love Maroon 5 and the way he switched up the keys and hit the high notes just made his performance amazing for us. We hope his CD has some similar songs.
Both Blake and Jordin were asked to sing a song written for the show called 'This Is My Now' and man was it awkward seeing him sing such a non-Blake song. It was as though someone wanted to play a prank on him and told him to sing this song. Ugh. He did a good job, but it was so out of his genre that it was difficult even for the judges to comment on. -

'When I Get You Alone'
The final three episode had Blake Lewis, Jordin Sparks and Melinda Doolittle all singing three songs. Blake sang 'This Love' by Maroon 5, 'Roxanne' and 'When I Get You Alone,' maybe not realizing that Maroon 5 would be playing the results show. OK, he had to know, but that just makes the whole thing kinda dirty, since the producers picked it.

'This Is Where I Came In'
In the final four episode, Blake and the rest each sang two songs, filling out the hour with a smaller cast. Blake chose 'You Should Be Dancin' and 'This Is Where I Came In.' Despite Simon saying he thought Blake would be eliminated, America disagreed, sending our little beatboxer into the final three.

'You Give Love a Bad Name'
On Bon Jovi night, Blake Lewis took one of our favorite songs and added beat-boxing to it. We ... weren't thrilled. But the judges seemed to like it, as did America, who gave Blake a place in the final four.

'Imagine' Blake Winning
For the 'Idol' Cares episode, Blake chose a slower, more thoughtful song to slow things down. Unfortunately, he chose a song that the judges agreed couldn't really showcase his abilities. Maybe America was feeling charitiable, as Blake's scores from this and the next week got him into the final four.

'When the Stars Go Blue'
Though Paula and Randy both liked Blake's version of 'When the Stars Go Blue,' Simon wasn't as big a fan ... just like the voters, who put Blake in the final three. That pretty much ended any country aspirations ... which probably didn't break Blake up too much.

'I Need to Know'
Choosing one of guest-star Jennifer Lopez's husband's songs couldn't hurt. Blake Lewis actually rocked 'I Need to Know' by Marc Anthony, earning praise from all the judges on both his song choice and performance.

'Mack the Knife'
Choosing an older, jazzier song actually fit Blake Lewis pretty well, though not all the judges agreed. Still, we liked it, and since we helped vote, Blake made his way into the top eight.

'Love Song'
Blake went with the Cure on Gwen Stefani night, though we would have loved to see him attack some No Doubt. His rendition wasn't bad, with Simon even telling him Blake was the lead among the men.

'Time of the Season'
'Time of the Season' was one of our favorite Blake Lewis performances ever. The judges all agreed, with Simon complimenting Blake on taking an older song and making it modern. Oh, and something about being a million times better than last week, but we ignored that.

'You Keep Me Hangin' On'
Blake had us hanging on from the very start, though the judges didn't necessarily agree. They were happy with his performance (we'd be hearing more about THAT as the competition advanced) but the vocals weren't as good. Don't listen to them, Blake, it's all about performance to us.
