Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz are one of Hollywood's 'it' couples these days -- but it hasn't always been so clear-cut with these two. In the beginning of the courtship, Ash claimed she was dating her bandmate, but onlookers at a fateful after party in fall '06 would have thought otherwise. The two were reportedly snuggling in the corner, as Ashlee's sister, mom and dad stood by. Not to mention blogger Perez Hilton. Grossed out yet?

Jealous, Much?
By mid-November of '06, though, it looked like Ash was playing the field, and things had cooled. At an industry party, she was reported to have settled into the lap of Charmed actor Drew Fuller. And poor Pete -- he ducked out of the party early, looking sullen (big surprise, right?). But not to worry ... he and Ash started making out in public again soon after. Phew.

Another World?
So what does making out, holding hands and hanging together at lots of public places mean to Pete Wentz? Apparently not much
-- or he's just crap at being coy. When he was asked about his relationship with Ashlee Simpson for a February '07 interview for 'Rolling Stone,' Pete said "Maybe in a different universe, we'd be some hot couple, but not in this one." Oh, and he went on: "I'm attracted to creative people and train wrecks, and there's no shortage of that in Los Angeles." But we thought L.A. was another world ... -

Spring Break
Later that winter, though, it seemed like Pete found that universe -- even if he wasn't admitting it. For some people, spring break + mexico + romance = a cheesy club in Cabo and some soggy tacos. But for Ashlee and Pete -- two celebs with money to burn and a relationship to hide -- it was all about a hush-hush getaway somewhere that we can only imagine was a lavish tropical paradise.

Devotion on High
Ashlee Simpson was on hand to escort Pete Wentz to an appearance on 'Total Request Live' in April. Now that's devotion: Ashlee's been exposed to the world for lip-synching on 'Saturday Night Live' amidst an already-dubious musical career. But she's still at her man's side when he needs some support in the face of thousands of girls teeming around the MTV studios hoping for a glimpse of him and for a taste of his live performance. Wow, Ash. We never knew you were so strong.

Togetherness
If the old adage is true that couples who eat transfats together, then make out in booths at clubs together and finish up by dashing from the scene stay together, then Ashlee and Pete are off to a great start. The pair was seen eating fries and burgers with ten of their pals at an L.A. eatery in late April, and they've been spotted frequently in April and May '07 hanging in all kinds of hotspots in L.A. and NYC.

Despite the fact that neither Ashlee Simpson nor her hard-rocking, feelings-ridden beau Pete Wentz has publicly acknowledged that they're dating, the two are together, well -- a lot. At least now we know they can share a quiet moment together in the daylight, sans booths, TV appearances or glam vacations. These two might really know more than they let on.
