AD: The members of DK come from diverse backgrounds. Who are your musical heroes? DAWN: I know that we’ve all had different influences. I know Prince is a huge influence for me. I know for D. Woods it’s Patti LaBelle, and those [kinds of] big singers and Audrea lived for Maria Carey, Tina Marie and Whitney Houston, and Aubrey loves everything from rock to Aerosmith and the old rock of Jimi Hendrix—and Me'Shell NdegéOcello, she likes a lot of local bands.
SHANNON: I’ve had lots of influences. I grew up on Christian Contemporary and country. I’m definitely a country girl at heart.
AD: Have you had to make any tough choices to be part of DK? SHANNON: A lot of lack of personal time. At first we were like, ‘We’ll share rooms!’ and now we each have our individual room … but we’re together 24/7. Just being able to have that space, being home doesn’t happen anymore.
AD: What’s your favorite way to kick back -- if you ever have down time! DAWN: I love kicking back and reading. It sounds like not much, when your life is nonstop, but the best thing you can do is take time for yourself and meditate, and have that moment of quiet. It’s a beautiful thing, a bubble bath-a good book -- I love bubble baths!
Shannon gives the best massages, too. If you have a knot, it’ll go away – she’s like a 200 pound guy! It’s good stuff. She’s so tiny, but she gives a 200 pound massage. We fight over her massages.
AD: So what’s coming up next for you busy ladies? SHANNON: We’ve got a tour with Christina Aguilera in February [2007], for 10 weeks, so we’re going to be hitting the road.
DAWN: Hang on to it, it’s gonna be a great for year 2007. We’re going to be all over the place, so look for us everywhere!
