Most girls don't wear bras that fit properly and not only is that uncomfortable, but it isn't healthy for your body. Just going shopping and trying on a bunch of bras isn't a smart move either. Before you hit the mall, you need to take your measurements so that you can find the perfect fit.

Before You Begin

1.) Try to get your Mom or a friend to take the measurements for you. I know this sounds embarrassing, but it's important. The measurements should be more accurate with someone else helping because your posture will be more relaxed and natural.
2.) Stand up straight and breathe normally.
3.) Don't measure over the top of clothing, or if you do, make sure it isn't bulky.
4.) Wear the bra you feel most comfortable in.
5.) Use a cloth tape measure if possible. Remember, older flexible tape measures can sometimes stretch and distort over time.

Determine Your Band Size

1.) Measure around the chest directly under the breast at a constant height with the cloth measuring tape. (If the bra size works out to an ODD number go up one inch to the next EVEN number.)
2.) Now measure around the chest at the height of the fullest part of the breast. The measuring tape should be held horizontal, flat on your back, and your arms should be down. Make a note of that measurement.
3.) To determine the proper Cup Size, find the difference between step 2 and step 1 (step 2 - step 1.) Use the chart below to determine your Cup Size.

Size Chart

Half Inch Difference = AA Cup
One Inch Difference = A Cup
Two Inch Difference = B Cup
Three Inch Difference = C Cup
Four Inch Difference = D Cup
Five Inch Difference = DD or E cup
Six Inch Difference = F Cup
Seven Inch Difference = G Cup

Example

Step 1: Under bust measurement is 34".
Step 2: Fullest part measurement is 37".
Step 3: 37 - 34 = 3" difference. Cup size is C.
Result: Buy a 34C bra.

Once you know your bra size, it is off the mall to shop for the right bra for you. Try several different styles (underwire, padded, demi, push-up, full coverage, etc.). The style of bra you choose depends on your personal comfort and what you want the bra to do for "the girls." Make sure when you are trying on bras that you put your shirt on so that you can see how the bra will look under your clothes. The style of bra may look cute on its own, but under your shirt, it may give you a shape you don't like.
