Plan the Party
Oh come on ... planning a sleepover isn't THAT scary. We'll take you step-by-step through the process so that your sleepover is the talk of the school. Trust us, we know how to throw a party! Instead of doing the same old boring things this weekend, get yourself motivated and have a night that you and your friends will never forget!
-
Step 1: Theme
It may sound ridiculous, but people love themed parties. Think of what you and your friends like, such as red carpet celebrities, California beaches, beauty pageants ... it doesn't matter what you pick. Then theme your party accordingly. So if you are doing a California beach theme, go tropical with your decorations and food selection. Go all out ... it's more fun if you really go overboard and get into it.
-
Step 2: Invites
Now that you have your theme picked, you can make your invitations. So many people do online invites, but that's just not as thoughtful. Get crafty and make your own invitations. If you have a red carpet theme, use lots of glitter and adornments on the invitation and tell your guests to wear their best shades to throw off the paparazzi that might be there. You can even set a dress code for your event. So chic!
-
Step 3: Food
Food is essential to your party. If you have your guests arrive between five and eight, they may expect dinner. Specify whether you will be serving dinner or not in the invite. Theme your dinner along with your party. It is so much more fun that way. Also, you know you are going to be up late, so plan snacks accordingly. The more you theme the food, the more outrageous and fun it will be for your guests.
-
Step 4: Makeovers
What's a sleepover without makeovers? Once your guests arrive and are fed, you may want to start out with games and activities, or ease into that stuff with some pampering. Facials, manicures, pedicures and makeup application are musts. This is your time to be pampered and feel good while dishing about that hottie in chemistry class.
-
Step 5: Games
You want to have several activities lined up throughout the evening. Do the louder stuff first like movies and karaoke, then wind down with something like truth or dare. There are tons of games and activities you can play with your group. Just think about your guests and what they would like to do. You can even do a poll beforehand, or early in the evening to set the schedule of events.
-
Step 6: Breakfast
It's the most important meal of the day, right? You will blow your guests' minds when you bring the theme through to the morning and serve them something special for breakfast. You may need to recruit one of your parents to help organize this, considering you will still be half asleep and your friends will certainly out-number you. Carrying your theme through and taking time to make sure you spend the next morning with your friends will mean a lot to them.
-
Step 7: Gifts
No good party ends with a simple wave goodbye. You need a clever parting gift. And you know what? Keep it themed for the ultimate impact. If your theme was the red carpet, during breakfast give each friend an award for the sleepover ... kind of like a superlative. And of course they have to come up front and give a speech! You can write these at night or first thing in the morning. You don't have to spend money, just be clever and think of something memorable.
-
Step 8: Proof
If you're as sneaky as we are, you'll be snapping pictures all night. Maybe ask a couple of your friends attending the sleepover to bring their cameras and take some photos throughout the party. There's nothing cooler than following up with your friends once you have the photos developed or uploading and sharing them. If you can do it in a creative and themed way, that's even cooler.
